New Year's is often seen as an occasion for loud and exciting parties with friends. But if you have kids at home, you may be more interested in a quieter, family-friendly celebration. You don't have to buy expensive tickets or stay out till 2 a.m. to have a great time on New Year's Eve. Our agents are excited to share some tips for ringing in the New Year, family-style.
1. Put On Some Dancing Tunes
Browse your favorite streaming service for some upbeat, kid-friendly dance tunes. Create a playlist, and spend an hour or two of your New Year's Eve party dancing. Get as silly as you want. You might want to choreograph a dance routine together or teach your kids a line dance from your era. Is this the year you bring back The Electric Slide or the Cupid Shuffle?
2. Pop Balloons Every Hour
Countdowns are an important part of NYE celebrations. Popping a balloon every hour, on the hour, is a kid-friendly way to count down. Let them take turns popping the balloons if you have more than one child.
To make this extra special, write the time on each balloon you pop. For instance, at 9 p.m., you can pop a balloon that says "9" on it. It's also fun to create your own designated popping tool. Try using a big needle taped to a kitchen spoon decorated with glitter glue and stickers.
3. Decorate Your Own Ball
Instead of watching a ball drop on TV, consider hosting your own ball drop in your living room. You and your kids can spend the evening decorating your own ball. Start with a beach ball, and use double-sided tape to attach bows, ribbons, and stickers. You could even write each family member's name on the ball.
As midnight approaches, set up a step ladder and help one of your kids climb it. Let them hold the ball above their head and drop it when the clock strikes midnight.
4. Craft Hourly Treat Bags
Create an array of treat bags to pass out on the big night. Make 9 p.m. bags with an assortment of small treats, 10 p.m. bags with different treats, and so forth. You could even give each set of bags a different theme. For instance, one set could include sweet treats while another features only salty snacks.
5. Create a Time Capsule
Spend some of your party time creating a time capsule filled with items from 2022. A shoe box can make a simple "capsule." Let each child add two or three special items, along with a note about the best things that happened in 2022. Then, tuck the box away somewhere special, and promise not to look back on it until the next New Year. You could even make a tradition of adding to it each year.
6. Consider a Noon Countdown
If your kids are still young, they might not make it until midnight. Consider hosting a morning New Year's party instead. You can count down to noon instead of midnight. This will allow everyone to have a fun, enjoyable experience while they're still wide awake and in a good mood. It also means you and your partner can have your own grown-up countdown later that night when the kids are in bed.
With these tips, your family can create a festive NYE celebration with as much fanfare as you desire. If you're still looking at Ridgewood homes for sale, feel free to contact us. We'd be happy to help with your search.
