Bishop House

Also known as the Ackerman-Dewsnap Home, the Bishop House was built around 1835 on the farm of Garret Ackerman. It was sold to James Dewsnap around 1870, and he built an addition to the home. The Bishop family renovated it after World War II, and it was sold to the borough in 1980. The house served as the municipal building in 1981, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. Architects worked to bring the building to modern times while preserving its history. Today, it serves as the city's cultural center and is conveniently located just around the corner from Saddle River homes for sale.
Ridgewood Historical Society & Schoolhouse Museum

Named to the National Register of Historic Places, the Ridgewood Historical Society & Schoolhouse Museum is housed in a one-room schoolhouse that was built in 1872 was known at the time as Public School District #45. It operated as a school until 1905. It's maintained by the Ridgewood Historical Society and features exhibits that illustrate the history of the Saddle River Valley area in the 18th and 19th centuries.
James Rose Center

The James Rose Center was the home of its namesake, one of the leaders of the modern movement in American landscape architecture in the 20th century. He began designing the home while in Okinawa during World War II with a model made from found scraps. It was built in 1953 and fused the indoors and outdoors in an innovative way. Today the Center promotes sound environmental design and is open to the public for self-guided tours from May-September.
The Hermitage Museum
335 North Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ 07423
The Hermitage Museum , located near Ho-Ho-Kus homes for sale , was built around 1760 as a Dutch sandstone house. It was the site of several historical events, including a visit by General George Washington during the Revolutionary War and the marriage of attorney and future vice president Aaron Burr and Theodosia Provost in 1782. The house was remodeled and enlarged in 1847-1848 by architect William H. Ranlett and serves as a picturesque example of the Gothic Revival architecture style. It's now a museum that holds educational programs and events.
Washington Spring Garden Van Saun County Park

Situated in the center of 140-acre Van Saun County Park near Paramus homes for sale, Washington Spring Garden and its natural spring was visited by General George Washington in 1780 during the Revolutionary War. He moved his Continental army troops into an encampment west of the Hackensack River. A local citizen reportedly sold a barrel of cider to the troops every other day, and his son said he saw Washington watering his horse at the spring, which was then called Washington Spring.
